Away from the commotion, Holmes and Watson walk down a quiet street. Holmes praises Watson’s performance, and Watson asks whether he has already obtained the photograph. Even after hearing the answer, Watson cannot fully understand what has happened. He continues questioning his friend as the detective begins to explain the result.

"You did it very nicely, Doctor," he remarked.「
"Nothing could have been better.「これ以上はない出来だ。
It is all right."万事うまくいったよ」
"You have the photograph?"「
"I know where it is."「ありかは分かっている」
"And how did you find out?"「どうやって突き止めたんだい」
"She showed me, as I told you she would."「彼女が見せてくれたのさ。
"I am still in the dark."「
"I do not wish to make a mystery," said he, laughing.「
"The matter was perfectly simple.「話はいたって簡単なんだ。
