Privacy policy

Established: October 18, 2026 · Last updated: October 28, 2026

山田哲也, the operator (the “Operator”) of よみうち英語 (the “Service”), handles user information as follows.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information stored only in your browser

Your reading position, completed scenes, daily word counts, speed and accuracy, and screen settings are stored only in your browser's localStorage and are not sent to the Operator's server. Clearing browser data also removes these records.

1.2 Information automatically recorded for delivery

To deliver the site, the delivery provider (Section 4) records your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and date and time.

1.3 Information received through inquiries

When you contact us by email, we receive your email address, your name if provided, and the content of your inquiry.

1.4 Paid plans (after introduction)

After monthly or annual paid plans are introduced, we will store email addresses on the Operator's server for login and payment, and reading and typing records to carry them across devices. Card numbers go directly to the payment provider (Stripe); the Operator does not receive them. We do not use passwords: login uses a link sent by email.

2. Purposes of use

  1. To provide the Service and display and transfer records
  2. To process paid-plan payments, manage contracts and provide login
  3. To respond to inquiries
  4. To prevent misuse and operate securely
  5. To aggregate usage and improve the Service without identifying individuals
  6. To send important notices, including changes to terms and service problems

3. Disclosure to third parties

We do not disclose personal information to third parties without the individual's consent, except where required by law. The providers in Section 4 handle information on our behalf for the purposes described above.

4. External transmissions (disclosure under Japan's Telecommunications Business Act)

The Service transmits information from users' devices to the providers below. Services not marked “In use” will transmit information as described here once introduced.

5. Providers in other countries

Many providers in Section 4 are in the United States. The United States does not have a comprehensive personal-information protection law equivalent to Japan's, but each provider takes measures to protect personal information under its privacy policy and contracts. Details of national systems are available in the Personal Information Protection Commission's report on the United States (Japanese).

6. Security measures

  • All communications are encrypted using HTTPS.
  • We do not store passwords or card numbers.
  • Server-side information is managed so that only the Operator can access the administration interface.

7. Requests for access, correction, deletion or cessation of use

If you request access to, correction or deletion of, or cessation of use of personal information we hold about you, we will verify your identity and respond without delay in accordance with applicable law. Please email the contact below. The Operator's address will be provided without delay on request.

8. Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy in response to changes in law or the Service. Important changes will be announced on the Service.
