Holmes continues his explanation at dawn. Once the purpose of the advertisement is known, the next question is what the criminals hoped to gain from Wilson’s absence. A small pawnbroker’s shop seems to contain nothing worth so much money and effort. Holmes describes how he moved from the contents of the house to what might lie beyond it.
