十月十三日、バスカヴィル館からホームズへ宛てた報告が始まる。ワトソンは現地で目にする土地の様子を、離れた友に伝えようとしている。館の生活にも近隣の付き合いにも、ロンドンでは知り得なかった顔が少しずつ見えてきている。
