Walking through the frosty night, Holmes and Watson reach the Alpha Inn, a small Bloomsbury public house. Holmes orders two glasses of beer from its red-faced landlord and casually brings up the subject of geese. This landlord is the man who organized the goose club for Henry Baker and the other members.

"Your beer should be excellent if it is as good as your geese," said he.「ここのガチョウと同じくらい上等なら、ビールもさぞすばらしいはずですね」と彼は言った。
"My geese!"「
The man seemed surprised.
I was speaking only half an hour ago to Mr. Henry Baker, who was a member of your goose club."
"Ah! yes, I see.「ああ、はい、なるほど。
But you see, sir, them's not our geese."
Whose, then?"
"Well, I got the two dozen from a salesman in Covent Garden."「
