結婚したばかりの二人がすぐにも旅立つのではと、ホームズの計画は危うくなる。だが二人は教会の前で別れ、彼女はいつものように五時に公園へ出かけると言い残す。語り終えたホームズは冷たい牛肉とビールを頼み、今夜はワトソンの協力が要ると切り出す。
