青年の陳述は、池のそばで父と言い争ったあとのことへ移る。彼は気性の激しい父から離れ、農場へ戻る道を歩き始めた。だが、途中で背後から聞こえた声が、青年を再び池へ向かわせる。何を見て、どのように助けを求めたのかが語られる。
