紹介所の小部屋には、責任者のストーパー嬢に加えて、愛想のよい太った中年男性が待っていた。男はハンター嬢の姿を見ると満足げに声を上げ、家庭教師の職を探しているか、前の勤めではどれほどの給金だったかと、矢継ぎ早に質問する。

"Well, when I called last week I was shown into the little office as usual, but I found that Miss Stoper was not alone.「さて、先週そこへ伺ったときも、いつものように小さな個室へ通されましたが、ストーパーさんは一人ではありませんでした。
