開いた天窓の外には梯子が掛かり、誰かが外へ出た跡がある。ハンター嬢は、夫妻が出かけた時には梯子がなかったと話す。そこへ重い杖を持ったルーカッスルが戻り、部屋を見回して、いなくなった人物の行方を三人に問い詰める。
