空には星と月があり、地上では霧が広がっている。ホームズと仲間たちは屋敷の近くで待ち続ける。見える範囲がどう変わるか、ワトソンは周囲を見渡そうとしている。待っている間にも周囲の状態は変わり、さっきまで見えていた場所を、何度も見直すことになる。
