道を行くヘンリー卿を見守りながら、三人は霧の向こうにも注意を向ける。何かが近づくような音がする。白い壁のような霧を前に、次の瞬間を待つところだ。屋敷の窓を眺めていたときとは違い、いまは、霧の縁とその先の道へ視線を集める時間になっている。
