髪をじっと眺めた小男は、ウィルソンこそ組合にふさわしいと言う。だが念のためと断って、両手で髪をつかみ、悲鳴が上がるまで引っぱる。過去にはかつらや染料でだまそうとした者がいたらしい。本物と確かめると、男は窓から空きは埋まったと叫び、外の赤毛の群れは散っていく。
