通路で呼び止めた年老いた男は、一瞬だけ姿勢と表情を変えてみせた。ワトソンは相手がホームズだと気づき、驚きを抑えて近づく。周囲の客にはまだ知られていないようだ。ここで何をしているのか尋ねたいが、まずは声を落として話さなければならない。
